"I think we'd be surprised at how universal our problems are."
Somewhere out there, beyond what we believe to be the edges of what we see, there lives men and women of a millennium numbered unfathomably to our own. Despite being so detached from what we could consider a part of “humanity”, they are in fact us. They have what we do, and what we believe we will in the future and yet they are not transcendent to be considered “unhuman”. They have eyes, hearts and penises as we do. They hunger, think and hate as we do and they rape, steal and give as we do.
Just like us, they are born - some better and some worse and especially so in upbringing. In the same way that we would consider a childhood raised in slavery or persecution to be utterly abusive, the same exists on this distant land, possibly worse. The opposite is true: one could be born into incomprehensible affluence and later enjoy an education and the luxuries akin to that of royalty.
Only beyond the reach of our own telescopes and shuttles could we ever see beyond the meanings of our own symbols.
